Equation of Simplicity
Solution + staff = successful resolution
I know this formula sounds overly simplistic – but it never ceases to amaze me how many times I have been called in as a troubleshooter to solve some big problem only to find the answers are simple. Thanks to the ex army captain who had a lot to do with my training out of university I found out quickly that no matter how hard an issue the answers were generally simple.
In fact one of my greatest assets has been an ability to soar above a problem, recognize its inherent simplicity and come up with a unique solution. Even the largest, hardest problems are generally a number of smaller problems lumped together.
A mentor can take you away from the mundane, look at an issue as it really is and show you how to create innovative solutions. Once you have a solution implementing it and having staff act upon it is relatively easy. What staff members understand they will act upon. It’s only when a system or action is beyond their understanding that problems arise.
So let’s start making things simple! It’s not hard but there is an art to it!
