We are everyday presented with opportunities in our life. Whether it be to take a swim in warm weather then we could sit by the sea with our favourite drink in hand, OR we could go to work, prepare the factory for the next day to ensure our business prospers, thinking that in the future we can sit on the beach all we like. While life needs balance so does business, especially from an owners’ perspective, otherwise we won’t take advantage of the opportunities offered to us. If you could, imagine a huge dam, full of possibilities for your business. The dam is full to the brim, bursting at the seams with a myriad of different ideas, connections, products and people. All of which you could tap into, Wow!

Now at the bottom of this magnificent dam are a row of flood gates, stretching all around the dam wall. These flood gates open the way for the possibilities to flow your way.

You run to the wall, running straight up to the middle flood gate and yank it open. Opportunities flow your way, your business expands and all is well. But after a while the opportunities flowing through the flood gate are much the same, there are just as many, but not enough to grow your business any more.

Inspiration – I’ll try another flood gate. So leaving your flood gate you run to the next flood gate on the right. As you grasp the handle and yank it open the possibilities begin to flow through. But at the same time you hear a mighty clang as the first flood gate closes. What have you got? New opportunities and new challenges, your business grows but in a different way, and after a while, as before, the growth stops and the business begins to stagnate … again.

This could be a fairly frustrating analogy – what with all the flood gate opening, only to remain roughly the same and perhaps in a changed market or with different business partners.

BUT WHAT IF!

What is you soar above your business, use the leverage we talked about before in such a way that you had highly experienced managers, supervisors and staff working with you.

You could open the first flood gate, opportunities would flow and once the business was on track and the opportunities locked in, you could bring a member of staff in and have them hold the flood gate while you went to the next and opened that. The original opportunities are still there, that part of the business still grows because it is in the capable hands of your staff.  When you open that second flood gate more opportunities flow that add to your business in conjunction with all of your existing business.

By using leverage you open more opportunities for your business, by being an eagle and soaring high above your business you can see and plan for the future and your business will grow.

The one reason many businesses don’t make use of their opportunities is that they are like an eagle on the ground, too close to see and grab the opportunities that arise.

Be the eagle soar high above your business. Grab each opportunity as it comes your way.

Whatever your business, if you operate predominately in the day to day operations you will miss many opportunities , opportunities that with great human, physical and financial resources you could use to make your business the retirement dream you are looking for.
